Been deep in research on crypto exchange development lately and wanted to open this up to the community since a lot of æpp builders here probably think about similar tradeoffs.
The exchange landscape has shifted a lot. It used to be enough to bolt on a matching engine and call it a day. Now users expect fast execution, real liquidity, and platforms that do not fall over during volatile markets. A few things stand out as the real differentiators right now.
Liquidity depth over flashy UI Doesn’t matter how clean your interface looks if the order book is thin. Aggregating liquidity across sources early on seems to matter more than almost anything else for early traction.
CEX, DEX, or hybrid Centralized exchanges give you speed and control but come with custody risk and heavier compliance. Decentralized exchanges hand control back to users but can struggle with speed and slippage. Hybrid models are getting more attention lately because they try to balance both.
AI is creeping into the stack Fraud detection, anomaly monitoring, and smart order routing are becoming table stakes rather than nice to have. Makes sense given how much volume moves through exchanges daily now.
Compliance from day one KYC and AML are not optional anymore in most regions. Bolting it on after launch is a lot more painful than building it in from the start.
I came across a solid breakdown from Craitrix that walks through the different exchange types and what each build actually involves, worth a read if you are weighing options: Cryptocurrency exchange development company
Curious how others here are thinking about this, especially anyone who has looked at DEX development on smart contract platforms like this one. What has been the hardest part of your build so far?
