Project Title
TUM Blockchain Conference

Applicant

My name is Shouvik Ghosh. I am pursuing my master’s in computer science at TUM, and I am the president of the TUM Blockchain Club. We are a student-run non-profit organization at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. The club was founded back in 2022 with a focus on education, support and networking. Our goal is to advance the web3 ecosystem in Munich and beyond by establishing a platform for accessible education and collaborative knowledge exchange. We aim to simplify web3 understanding, leveraging our position within Germany’s largest and most tech-focused student community.

The Technical University of Munich has over 15.000 students pursuing a computer science degree and has a strong focus on entrepreneurship, with new startups coming up every few months. Our club consists of 45 dedicated core team members, most of whom possess strong technical backgrounds in computer science, engineering, and mathematics. We have an additional 2000+ students in our network who are interested in blockchain technology and regularly attend our educational and networking events.

Value Application

What will become better and why? Why is your work beneficial for the aeternity ecosystem? (Please describe the impact of your project. How will your work impact the larger aeternity ecosystem? How does a successful contribution of your project look like?)

The TUM Blockchain Conference 2024 is the second iteration of our signature event, and the first iteration in 2023 was a major success with over 1000 attendees, 100 speakers, and 20 sponsors.

We believe in unlocking everyone’s potential with web3. Our mission is to create opportunities for learning, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration within this rapidly evolving space. We see the financial cost of attending conferences and educational events as a significant barrier to entry for many. Ticket prices, travel expenses, and accommodation can be prohibitive. Many people in the early stages of their web3 journey are seeking direction: where to begin, how to progress, and how to stay current in this dynamic space. We want to provide students with the knowledge, resources, and support to discover their path and understand their potential within the web3 ecosystem. With the grant, we would be able to offer the students financial aid in the form of a scholarship so they can attend the conference.

Definition of Terms

What exactly are we talking about? Please describe your project.

Status Quo

TUM Blockchain Conference is here with the goal of advancing the Web3 ecosystem in Munich and beyond with a strong focus on education and understanding the core of the technologies being developed right now.

As a student-run organisation, we are blockchain agnostic and are looking to understand the state-of-the-art development happening currently in the web3 space completely from the education and research perspective.

Moreover, given the huge student demographic in Munich, a conference tailored for young talent and industry veterans alike would introduce Web3 concepts to a receptive audience. This would foster knowledge-sharing and mentorship opportunities and potentially create pathways for the next generation of Web3 innovators in Munich.

Furthermore, we want to enable cross-industry collaboration because web3’s potential impact spans beyond developers. A conference designed to include different ecosystems would promote collaboration, accelerate adoption, and highlight innovative use cases for businesses and wider society.

Finally, Munich is also the perfect location for our conference because of its strong tech sector and established industries. We believe that it has all the prerequisites to become a Web3 hub. A successful conference would elevate its profile, attract investment, and solidify its role in shaping the future of the decentralised web.
