Aeternity workshop in Geneva (Feb 2020) - feedback

Hi,
Last Tuesday (4 Feb) I was organizing a meetup in Geneva:

  • Aeternity smart-contract workshop
  • Bitcoin-NG
  • discussion about Aeternity UVP (Unique Value Proposition)
  • mobile oriented approach

During the meetup we had guests from Vacheron Constantin and Richemont SA, a big Switzerland-based luxury goods company.

This is the feedback:

  • Sophia language is cool and promising
  • strong typing is brings lot of benefints
  • It’s hard to justify aeternity UVP in contrast to very strong competition and new blockchains coming to the market. A strong argument is that it’s up and running for 1.5 year.

Few things which are still missing for the adoption:

  • strong token ecosystem
  • good wallet support
  • tooling
  • competition in mining pool puts aeternity at risks. We had a look at the mining power and concentration on a one mining pool. That raised lot of questions.

Excellent workshop @robert!:clap: Here are some more details about this meetup:

Location: École CREA, Geneva, Switzerland

Number of participants: 50

Topics presented: Aeternity Sophia smart-contract workshop, Bitcoin-NG, FATE VM, discussion about Aeternity UVP (Unique Value Proposition), mobile oriented approach

Questions by the participants: What would be the competitive advantage to be on æternity instead of Ethereum? Do we have a bridge between æternity and other blockchains? You have tested different blockchains, why does æternity have your preference?

Possible æpps use cases: We have been discussing some financial applications of smart contracts and also we were covering payment networks: like smart-grids, green energy trading, electric vehicles, etc…

Other idea is to bring back the discussion about proof of stake:
